My daughter Bella’s mother tends towards Christian practices and I tend toward Buddhist. So my daughter Bella has long had an internal dialog about the relationship between the two.
She said to me: “Jesus and Buddha, they are brothers, right, Daddy?”
It took me a moment to get over the fact that my then 8-year-old was channeling metaphysical genius. Then, I said, “Yes, honey.”
She thought for a minute. She said, “That’s nice. So Mary is Buddha’s mother, too” and she ran away before I could say more.
The thing is, she wasn’t asking me. She was telling me. Mary is Buddha’s mother. All the prophets are in the same family and their bond is as strong as blood.
Imagine if we all thought that way. If we were invested in our similarities instead of our differences. I call it Bella’s Path to Peace.
