There is only one way to feel better about world problems that worry you.
It is just like any other problem you might face–like a flat tire. If you have a flat tire, ignoring it won’t help you. Blaming other people for it won’t help you.
Similarly, whether you worry about race, climate, environment, world hunger, animal cruelty or all of the above, ignoring the world problems won’t take the anxiety you feel about them away. Nor will blaming other people for them–that just has the effect of adding the discomfort of anger to your anxiety.
Like flat tires, there is only one thing that will make you feel better about world problems–working to fix them. Doing something about them.
That’s the bad news.
Here is the good news:
- Not knowing what to do about the world problems that bother you but taking steps to figure out an answer for yourself counts as doing something.
- Doing something about world problems will help replace the anxiety with a feeling of meaning and purpose that you can’t find elsewhere.
