This September 19, my parking day partner Jen Petersen and I are planning a park(ing) space in front of the Whole Foods market on 7th Avenue between W. 24th and 25th Streets, in Manhattan. We need your help to construct an inviting, joy-filled park! Peruse this list and consider contributing time, labor, creativity, objects, or cash to help build our little traffic oasis:
Time/Labor on the 19th
Set-up–8am
Chillin at the park on the 19th:
9-11am
11-1pm
1pm-3pm
3pm-5:30pm
Take-down–5:30-6:30pm
Objects and their transport to/from the park(ing) space on the 19th
We’ve got sod ordered, and have procured a big market tent for shade, but still need to borrow:
Seating (benches, cafe tables and chairs, crates)
Plants (fig tree anyone?)
and buy:
some art supplies, a crate of local apples from the Union Square greenmarket
Cash
Perhaps you’d like to offer something from the above list, but have neither time, nor transport? We’d be grateful for any financial assistance you’d like to donate instead!
Creativity
This year, we’ll have an art project for park visitors to participate in–beading, painting, or quilting on isolation masks–should they choose, and we need a few amateur to expert-status textile artists to help in the prep and execution of this.
Parks are for people, folks, and the more people involved in making a park, the better!
Please email Jen at jen.petersen@nyu.edu ASAP if you’d like to be part of ours.
