Sorry, those of you who tuned in to Good Morning America, but my appearance was rescheduled for the morning of Monday, June 25. Meanwhile, before I heard about the rescheduling, I wrote a great post for all the new visitors, viewers of GMA who would be swamping blog, full of suggestions about things to do to live more environmentally. I’m saving that for Monday.
So now, here I am typing by candlelight and spent at the end of the day, already having written a post but having nothing to put up for today. So it’s going to be short and sweet.
Tonight, Isabella and I rode my bike over the Brooklyn Bridge to the home of two of the film-makers who are making the No Impact Man documentary, our friends Justin and Eden. We went because someone was selling a bike rickshaw near Justin and Eden’s house. It turned out the rickshaw is too small for my long legs, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a blast. Isabella loves the bridge. “I see river and boats and cars and buildings,” she said when see stopped in the middle. “I love a bridge,” she said when I told her we were going.
The thing is, just as I type, this no electricity thing is kind of a pain in the butt, but it does force us to spend more time outside in the evenings, and that is really nice. Isabella is an outside girl. If the lights were on, we never would have ridden over the bridge. We would have just come home. Isabella would have been antsy till bedtime. Instead, we got to ride around singing This Old Man, and as soon as I’d climbed the nine flights with her on my shoulders, she conked out.
Anyway.
If you feel like giving something up as a gesture towards the environment for a week, Greenpa over at Little Blog in the Big Woods, is launching his week-long Earth Lent. If you want to join in, you can read about it here.
