Sometimes people tell me that they are very concerned about the environment but that they don’t feel their efforts can make the slightest difference. I like to tell a mushy story my friend told me about a little girl on the beach.
Thousands of starfish have been washed up by a rip tide. They are dying in the sun. One by one, the little girl picks them up, carries them to the water and drops them in.
A man comes along and says, “What’s the point? There are so many you can’t even make a difference”.
The girl says, “Tell that to the one I just put back in the water.”
By the way, I’m giving a talk on the No Impact experiment at Manhattan’s Solar One tonight at 7:00 PM. Click here for details.
